Savory Ham Panini

"Aha!" moment, as Oprah always calls it.  Mine happened in the form of a panini, otherwise known as grilled sandwich.

I recently bought myself a stove top grill/griddle, and I could not wait to make my own panini on it.  Today, being a lazy Sunday, when you are torn between chores, DIY projects, and church, lunch is either going to be fast food junk or something quick from the kitchen.  Fast food junk was definitely out of the question.  So I thought, why not spend a little quality time in the kitchen and make a panini...and boy was I happy.  It's one of those those moments when you say, "why did I not think of this before?"  Duhh...I should have learned from Veggie Girl's F&E Chile Sourdough Bread.  And today being a Sunday, it's not just "aha!" it's "halleluja!"

Oh, by the way, tonight is Chinese New Year's Eve.  So, Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Mandarin), or Kung Hei Fat Choi! (Cantonese) to all!

The Big Picture

  • grill some bread
  • fill it in with your favorite cold cuts
  • enjoy
Ingredients:

2 slices of sourdough bread
olive oil
3 slices of ham
lettuce
garlic powder
parmesean cheese

Procedure:

1.  Heat up the grill on high heat.  While the grill is heating up, brush the slices of sourdough with  olive oil on both sides.  Lay them on the hot grill and press down the bread to make sure you get grill marks on it later on.  Flip the bread and grill the other side.

2.  Sprinkle garlic powder and parmesean cheese on one side of the sourdough slices.  Add the ham or any other cold cuts you prefer.  Top it with lettuce, and finish it off with the other slice of sourdough.  Enjoy!  -GG-
Beautiful grill marks.
Sprinkle garlic powder and parmesean cheese on both slices.
A crispy garlic-y, cheesy,  sourdough sandwich.  Hallelujah!
